Imagine my joy when I  opened a page and saw Miss Mary Evelyn Warren's name.  Miss Mary Evelyn was my fifth grade teacher and I adored her!  I must write her a note and tell her so.

As for you, I was disappointed that you were Billy Walker instead of Billy White, my fourth, fifth, and sixth grade crush.

But wait!  We might be kin, you and I.  Are you related to Big George Walker on the Swamp?  Or how about John Henry Walker?  He was my grandfather.  He used to keep the courthouse clock in fine repair and write letters to the Abbeville Chronicle.

That was in the 1930's and my name was Joanne Holloway.  My grandfather Murray Holloway was The Po-lice back then.  Do you know how it was back then?

Hey Billy,

This is Rebecca Scott (Anderson)  I was just reading where Anne Rousseau had answered my reply.  I am not sure of her e-mail address.  Was she meaning Jefferson Davis stayed at Hezekiah Anderson's home the night before he was captured?  I am a teacher and teach the Civil War.  That would be really interesting for my students.  Please let me know how to get in touch with her.  I am interested in learning more.  I believe I met her at a family reunion and she had shown me her notebook and had a picture of the old house, but we failed to keep in touch.

Thanks

The child of the first marriage was raised by the Walkers, so knew very little about the Stone family., Should say raised by the Stone, not Walker family

Billy,
I am a descendant of Leonard Stone, Frederick Stone, John Allen Stone, David Stone, then myself. I read on the Wilcox County History and Genealogy Query Board that Doris and Florence Stone wrote a history on the Leonard Stone family. Does anyone know how I can obtain a copy of this book? Any information on this family would be appreciated. My e-mail address is mdavis30217 @yahoo.com

My name is Martha Stone Davis. I live in Franklin, Ga. although I was born and raised in LaGrange, Ga. I recently found your website by accident, or maybe it was destined to be. My daddy, David Stone, was born and raised in Abbeville. His mother was Louise Elizabeth Keen Stone, daughter of Josiah and Eliza Mann Keen. I believe these are also your wife's great grandparents. My grandmother died when daddy was 8 years old and my granddaddy died when I was 2 months old. I never got the chance to know them, or any of my south Georgia relatives. The only relatives I knew were daddy's brothers and sister. Would like any information that you would be willing to share. My e-mail address is mdavis30217@ yahoo.com
                                            Thanks,

Hi there;

I am looking for any family that may be around for Laura Ruth Gibbs b-1-29-1922/d-5-31-2002. She Married Edward Kenneth Matthias.

  Thank you,

Christina Hruska

Sorry - I see now that the posting is signed by Gloria Kingery.  So she shares the same grandparents as I do.  I sure hope you can get this email to her.  Thanks  Judy

Hello Billy,

It seems we have the same grandparents,  Jerry Chesley "Pete" Slaughter and Julia Bell Stone.  They had 6 children, James, Zacharia Edmund (who died 2 wks after birth), Alley Mae, Ed Wess, Ralph Durem and Jerry Chestly.  I am the daughter of Ed Wess Slaughter.  My name is Judy and I live in Michigan.

Now I know you're not Alley Mae or Ralph's son, so you must be either Jerry Chestly or James' son.  I was so glad to find the web site with your information.  I can't wait to hear from you.

I was reading Rebecca Anderson's post about her family from Wilcox County. Mt Grandfather J. T. Anderson lived in Wilcox County.. He was my Mother's father. He was married to Joanna McCray. I have lots of history on this family, if she would like to e-mail.

I would like to add to the post that I just answered. Joe Anderson was my mother's brother. We are also related to the Fitzgeralds (David, etc) aand T. N. Statham. T.N. was the father of Sara Jane Statham that married Hezekiah Anderson. Hezekiah built the house that faces the courthouse in Abbevllle. That is the place he spent the last night with his family before he was captured the following day, with his horse tied to a tree that was in the front yard.

Billy,

My family was from Wilcox Co., Ga around Abbeville. My father was born there, as well as his parents, one set of grandparents and some great grandparents. I'm told I have relatives still living there and in Ben Hill County, Georgia. I have met a few in resent years.
My grandparents were Jerry Chesley "Pete" Slaughter (son of James Monroe Slaughter and Mary Elizabeth Thomas DeLoach) and Julia Bell Stone (daughter of Dennis Wright Stone and Martha E. Brown). They moved to Florida about 1939, where they later died and are buried in a cemetery in Apopka.
The Stone and Brown family have been in Wilcox county for some time while it was still Irwin County.
The Slaughter's had come there about 1900 by way of Pulaski, Dooly, Macon, Crawford, Putnam and Hancock Counties. I'm at a brick wall with this family. James M. Slaughter's father was Jeremiah Slaughter. The one believed to be Jeremiah's father is Thomas P. Slaughter b. 1790-1800 VA. There are so many Slaughter's in and around that area around Hancock but no clear connections to any of them so far.
The Deloach family were from Macon Co. before Wilcox and had lived in a couple counties at one time or another in Georgia but my great-great grandfather Chesley Davis DeLoach was born Edgefield Co., SC and moved to Georgia as a young boy with his father, Edmund.

Hey Billy,
My name is Rebecca Anderson. My ancestors were from Wilcox County Georgia. My great grandpa Joe Anderson was born in Abbeville, GA. He died in Wayne County. His father was James Turner Anderson who was married to Joanna McCrae the first time. James Turner's father was Hezekiah Anderson married to Sarah Jane Statham. I was just interested in the family. I don't know where the family came before they were in Wilcox. I did not know if you could help me or not.
Thanks
Rebecca Anderson

List your questions about ancestors, etc here. I know there are a lot of geneology sites but some of our local people are not interested in and do not visit those sites but might be interested in local news and info here on this site.
